How ERI achieved operational excellence by optimizing Salesforce

ERI partnered with RevBlack to replace legacy technical debt with a custom Salesforce architecture that delivers board-ready data & seamless system integration.

About ERI

Environmental Remedies (ERI) is a leading provider of asbestos, lead, and mold abatement services across California, with a strong presence in the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, and San Diego.

Operating in a highly regulated industry, the company provides essential, compliance-driven services to a diverse B2B clientele, including insurance providers and large-scale contractors.

With a workforce of approximately 190 employees and growing, the organization’s Business Intelligence (BI) function is led by Nicole, the Business Intelligence Manager.

Tasked with overseeing data strategy and system architecture across multiple regions, Nicole acts as the primary driver for the company’s digital transformation efforts.

The challenge: Overcoming technical debt & fragmented systems

Prior to partnering with RevBlack, Environmental Remedies faced significant operational friction.

Although Salesforce had been the company’s CRM for five years, the initial implementation was restricted to "out-of-the-box" features that failed to account for the unique complexities of the abatement industry.

The previous technical environment was characterized by:

  • Inflexible Architecture: Previous consultants insisted the system could not be customized, leading to a "halfway" implementation that hindered rather than helped the team.
  • Communication Gaps: Working with offshore teams led to delayed response times and a lack of proactive problem-solving.
  • Integration Failures: Critical connections between Salesforce, QuickBooks (ERP), and payroll systems (formerly ADP) were unstable and poorly managed.
  • Lack of Strategic Insight: The system lacked the critical thinking necessary to translate complex business processes into efficient digital workflows.

Following an investment from a new financial partner, ICV, Environmental Remedies sought a high-touch consulting partner capable of resolving these systemic headaches and preparing the company for aggressive growth over the next five years.

The transformation: A partnership built on trust & agility

RevBlack distinguished itself early in the selection process by conducting a "reverse demo."

Before a contract was even signed, the RevBlack team analyzed Environmental Remedies’ existing processes and identified immediate areas for improvement.

This proactive approach provided a roadmap for success that went beyond basic requirements.

The partnership centered on three key pillars:

1. High-frequency collaboration

The implementation of a dedicated Microsoft Teams channel transformed the communication dynamic.

By moving away from rigid meeting schedules to real-time, asynchronous communication, RevBlack became a seamless extension of the internal BI team.

2. Technical precision & custom development

RevBlack replaced "half-baked" flows with robust, custom-engineered solutions.

A highlight of the transformation was the development of a seamless synchronization between Salesforce and Paylocity.

Utilizing custom Apex and sophisticated Flow logic, RevBlack created a "bulletproof" integration that automated complex data transfers without disrupting financial reporting.

3. Agility in "emergency" scenarios

The abatement industry moves fast, and Nicole frequently required immediate pivots.

RevBlack demonstrated exceptional flexibility, shifting sprint priorities on demand to address urgent operational roadblocks and providing expert-level support within minutes of a request.

The results: Board-level visibility & data integrity

The impact of the RevBlack partnership has been felt from the field to the boardroom.

The transformation has moved Environmental Remedies from a state of technical frustration to one of data-driven confidence.

  • Executive Visibility: The quality of the data is now so high that RevBlack-generated reports and slides were used directly in the company’s Q3 Board Deck. Six to eight key slides in the presentation were copy-pasted directly from RevBlack’s dashboards, providing the Board with essential projections and metrics.
  • Reporting Accuracy: Approximately 80% of the company’s current reporting suite was developed or optimized by RevBlack, ensuring that metrics related to EBITDA and growth are accurate and actionable.
  • End-to-End Efficiency: The entire project lifecycle (from initial lead to final collection) is now captured in a clean, functional system. The manual "workarounds" that previously plagued the staff have been eliminated in favor of automated, reliable workflows.
  • A Trusted Extension of the Team: Beyond the technical gains, the partnership has provided Nicole with a reliable technical bench. The level of trust is such that new features are often pushed directly to production with full confidence in their stability.

As Environmental Remedies continues its growth trajectory, the foundation laid by RevBlack ensures the company can scale efficiently, maintain compliance, and deliver superior value to its financial partners and clients alike.

Many times I've come into emergency projects needing help, and they were the first people to say, "Yes! Let's hop on a call in 5-10 minutes!" They were the first to communicate, "Let me do the research. Let me do anything & everything to make your life easier."
